This ADC syllabus is based on AS1-AS3. This entire section is focused on the ADC Exam. Training and exam evaluation will be based on FAA rules and regulations.
Before scheduling the practical exam you will be asked to meet with your examiner and answer a series of questions for following topics:
- Meteorology: retrieve and decode METARs and TAFs
- Altimetry: transition altitude, transition level, Q-codes.
- Charts: explain relevant airport and VFR sectional charts.
- Airspace: knowledge of airspace
- Procedures: knowledge of handling VFR, IFR, missed approaches, etc.
- This will be a scheduled session where your skills will be evaluated as as TWR controller without DEL or GND online.
- The exam will last between 1-2hrs until requirements are met.
- Your examiner will take notes and score your performance in line with the IVAO HQ Training Department’s marking standards. The examiner will not be allowed to provide any help except for technical issues.
- You are requried to find an APP or CTR controller that will be online for the entire exam.
For the exam to take place, and be deemed a valid exam, the following requirements must be met:
- An approach and/or Center control position online covering your airport
- A minimum of four IFR inbounds
- A minimum of four IFR outbounds, one of which is a vectored departure
- A minimum of two VFR aircraft or at least one VFR aircraft within the control zone whilst one VFR or two IFR aircraft arrive/depart
- A minimum of one emergency, which commences on your frequency
- At least one missed approach
- At least one text only aircraft
The following tasks will be checked during the exam:
- ATIS filled out correctly
- Correct runways in use, taking wind direction and local procedures in to account
- Checking filed flight plans, including SID but not the requested flight level, for validity
- Ability to give a non-SID IFR clearance with radar-vectors
- Ability to handle ground traffic (VFR and IFR) from parking position to take off and vice versa
- Handle all traffic flying in the control zone
- Correct traffic management, expeditious traffic flow and the ability to decide which radio transmission has priority in sequence
- Handle landing traffic from initial call to the gate (also missed approach)
- Perform correct handoffs to the next unit (APP / CTR) including correct flight strip marking
- Emergency handling
- Correct phraseology and English proficiency
Some situations may result in an automatic exam failure, although the exam may not be stopped immediately. They are:
- Radio Communication proficiency failure
- English Communication proficiency failure
- Insufficient theoretical knowledge
- Poor theoretical knowledge
- No charts
- Loss of separation
- Landing or take-off clearance while another aircraft is still on the runway
- Landing or take-off clearance if another aircraft is cleared to line up on the runway ahead
- Landing or take-off clearance if another aircraft is cleared to cross the runway
- Inability to manage VFR in the circuit pattern
- Keeping or clearing an aircraft into or through an area it should not be allowed to enter due to restrictions (such as danger areas, IMC when VFR, etc.)
- Instruction that may cause an aircraft to impact terrain
An exam is considered as failed and the practical part will stop immediately or will not be performed if:
- You have extremely poor theoretical knowledge
- You violate the IVAO Rules and Regulations
- You fail to turn up for the exam and a valid reason is not given within 48 hours
- You choose to stop the exam at any time after it has begun
In case of any cheating during a practical exam, regardless whether during the theoretical or the practical part, the exam will be immediately stopped and a six month ban on future exams will be applied.
Once your exam has been completed, it will be marked by your examiner.
Your examiner may choose to ask other members of the division training department, or the HQ training department (including SRTAx) who observed your exam for their opinions during the marking.
The mark, along with the examiners notes and scoring sheet, will be sent to the HQ training department for their validation. If your exam is validated as a success your rating will be updated at 1200z the following day.
This validation may take between 1 - 7 seven days to be completed.
