Example Hybrid SID:
Cleared to Mexico City via BNDIA3 departure, then as filed. Maintain 5000, expect FL340 10mins after departure. Departure frequency 119.0, squawk 3004.
In this example approach controll will then clear the aircraft direct GARDS to join the SID toward BNDIA.
Example vectored SID:
Cleared to Mexico City via Austin 6 departure, radar vectors GARDS, then as filed. Maintain 5000, expect FL340 10mins after departure. Departure frequency 119.0, squawk 3004.
In this example approach controll will then clear the aircraft direct GARDS to join the filed route.
¶ VFR
Departures with Flight Following
Example: “Southbound departure approved, maintain VFR at or below 3000 until further advised, squawk 0244. Advise ready to taxi.”
Departures without Flight Following
Example: “Southbound departure approved, maintain VFR at or below 2500 until further advised, Advise ready to taxi.”
Traffic Pattern + Taxi
Example: “Expect left traffic runway 17L, pattern altitude 1500, squawk 0201, runway 17L taxi via B.”
¶ General
- Austin has 2 FBOs for General Aviation parking, Atlantic and Signature. Both are located in the southeast next to taxiway B.
- Additional hangar parking is in the north east.
- Cargo parking is located in the north near ruwnay 18R.
- Military parking is located in the south, near runway 36L.
- All Frontier and Allegiant flights park at the south terminal near taxiway C.
- All air carrier traffic parks at the main terminal.
¶ Transponder
Austin airport does not use ASDE-X (Ground radar). Pilots are not required to operate transponders on mode ‘active’.
¶ Airspace
¶ Runway configuration
Wind calm: South Ops
South Ops:
Landing and departing: 18L, 18R.
North Ops:
Landing and departing: 36L, 36R
¶ IFR Arrivals
- ILS are the preferred approach type to be used for all runways.
- Parallel instrument approaches are authorized for all runways.
¶ Missed Approaches
- If there is an AUS TRACON controller online, standard missed instructions are runway heading offset 30 degrees divergent from the parallel runway, with a climb to 3,000’ MSL.
- AUS TRACON may dictate alternate missed approach procedures.
- If there is no AUS TRACON controller online, standard missed instructions are to fly the published missed.
¶ IFR Departures
- All SIDs require a initial heading by Tower.
Example: Fly heading 180, wind calm, runway 18L, cleared for take off.
- Departure headings:
RWY18L/R: 135, 180, 235
RWY36L/R: 315, 360, 055
¶ VFR Arrivals
- Assign squawk code. (Do not say ‘radar contact’)
- Give VFR instructions.
Example:
Squawk 0202.
Enter left downwind runway 17L, report midfield downwind.
¶ VFR Departures
Preferred runway for all VFR operations is runway 18L/36R.
¶ Airspace
