- Instruct aircraft to fly runway heading, on initial climb, assign vectors to initial route fix.

IFR (RNAV) Example:
Cleared to La Guardia via the Birmingham 8 deparutre, radar vectors to MRICA, then as filed. Maintain 4000, Expect FL340 10 minutes after departure. Departure frequency Birmingham Approach 123.8, squawk 2001.

Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport is surrounded by class C airspace. Aircraft entering class C airspace VFR require two-way communication with ATC and an operational transponder. 7110.65 Chapter 7, Section 8.
VFR Deaprture Example:
Maintain VFR at or below 3,500. Runway 6, taxi via A. Squawk VFR.
VFR Local Pattern Example:
Local traffic approved. Pattern altitude 1600’, expect left closed traffic runway 6, squawk VFR.

Ground is responsible for all movement areas.
Arriving GA traffic and private jets shall be routed to park at one of two FBO locations:

The Alabama Air National Guard maintains a base located north of runway 6/24 and west of runway 18/36.
Taxiway F is restricted north of runway 6/24 and taxiway H is restricted from H4 to F. Aircraft should use taxiway A.
¶ Runway Crossings
When requesting a runway crossing from TWR, specify the runway and the point at which crossing will occur, using the format of “Cross (rwy) at (intersection)?”. Callsign is not required.
TWR’s approval is only valid for one aircraft to cross as specified.

- TWR owns airspace from the surface up to and including 2,500 feet MSL, 5 mile radius.
¶ Missed Approaches and Go-Arounds
Aircraft should be advised to climb and maintain 4000’, fly runway heading, and handed off to the approach or center controller if available.
