- Instruct aircraft to fly runway heading, on initial climb, assign vectors to initial route fix.

IFR (RNAV) Example:
Cleared to Los Angeles International via the Knoxville 7 departure, radar vectors to TONIO, then as filed. Maintain 6000, Expect FL340 10 minutes after departure. Departure frequency Knoxville Approach 118.0, squawk 2001.

Mc Ghee Tyson Airport is surrounded by class C airspace. Aircraft entering class C airspace VFR require two-way communication with ATC and an operational transponder. 7110.65 Chapter 7, Section 8.
VFR Departure Example:
Maintain VFR at or below 3,000. Runway 5R, taxi via A A1.
VFR Local Pattern Example:
Local traffic approved. Pattern altitude 2000’, expect left closed traffic runway 5L, squawk VFR.

Ground is responsible for all movement areas. Ramps at Mc Ghee Tyson Airport are not considered movement areas. Note the taxiway G restrictions below.
Arriving GA traffic and private jets shall be routed to park at the TAC Air FBO located off of taxiway A at R5 and R6.
The Tennessee Air National Guard maintains a base located northwest of taxiway G.
Taxiway G is restricted southwest of the Tower.
Aircraft should use taxiway B for runway 5L.
¶ Runway Crossings
When requesting a runway crossing from TWR, specify the runway and the point at which crossing will occur, using the format of “Cross (rwy) at (intersection)?”. Callsign is not required.
TWR’s approval is only valid for one aircraft to cross as specified.

¶ Missed Approaches and Go-Arounds
Aircraft should be advised to climb and maintain 4000’, fly runway heading, and handed off to the approach or center controller if available.
